Released in Japan in 1997, Vampire Savior 2 (ヴァンパイア セイヴァー 2, Vanpaia Seviā) was released along side Vampire Hunter 2 and uses the same gameplay mechanics as Vampire Savior. The game adds Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge characters Donovan Baine, Huitzil, and Pyron to the Vampire Savior cast while omitting Jon Talbain (Gallon), Rikuo (Aulbath), and Sasquatch.
Although the game was never officially released in arcades outside of Japan, the game was incorporated into Darkstalkers 3 (Vampire Savior) and later as its own standard game in the Japanese only release of Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection. The game was later featured in the worldwide release of Capcom Fighting Collection in 2022.
Differences[]
Compared to Vampire Savior[]
Vampire Savior 2 retains most of the cast, as the characters Jon Talbain, Rikuo and Sasquatch were removed from the roster and opening themes in order to incorporate Donovan Baine, Huitzil and Pyron. The primary default color schemes for CPU opponents are now the default color schemes from Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge, selected by pressing High Punch. Character specific boss fights are now replaced with a singular boss fight against Jedah Dohma, with only Jedah himself receiving a unique ending. Like Vampire Hunter 2, there are no pre-fight dialogues for hidden challengers. Pre-bosses fights are no longer varied but set so the player must fight Darkstalkers' original boss, Pyron.
Similar to Vampire Hunter 2, Dark Force boost character attributes and inflict unhealable damage, but is no longer tied to a particular skill; these are now spun off as independent EX Supers. Conversely, the ability to chain combo midair is no longer possible without a stricter timing.
Along side Shadow a new character, Marionette has been added. Marionette allows the player to fight in mirror matches throughout the game. Like Vampire Hunter 2, Shadow receives an addition 5 colors to his pallet and stages share the same recoloring. Oboro Bishamon is now a playable character through code input on the character select screen. Donovan's Night Warriors stage "Revenger Rooster" is readded and recolored as well.
Compared to Vampire Hunter 2[]
Oddly and unlike Vampire Hunter 2, Vampire Savior 2 uses Night Warriors’ (Vampire Hunter in Japan) default color scheme for its CPU characters (selected in Vampire Savior with High Punch), while Vampire Hunter 2 uses Vampire Savior's Medium Punch color scheme. Exceptions to this rule include Lord Raptor/Zabel, whose Night Warriors color is selected with Low Kick, and Huitzil/Phobos, whose color is selected with Medium Punch. Minor differences include health and EX/special bars colors and the font used for winning quotes.

Ports[]
In Vampire Savior, Vampire Savior EX and the western port called Darkstalkers 3, Vampire Savior 2 along with Vampire Hunter 2 were available as unlockables with their missing characters playable. Darkstalkers 3 added updated English versions of both games' dialogues and endings. With the release of Vampire: Darkstalkers Collection in 2005, both games were playable as a whole with an added unlockable "arranged" versions which allowed players to play as once unavailable characters.
In 2022, Capcom Fighting Collection was released worldwide, and featured Vampire Savior 2 within the compilation's library. It remained in the untranslated Japanese version however, due to being based on the arcade ROM.
Trivia[]
- Due to the implied plans to create an English version of Vampire Hunter 2, which would've gone under the title Night Warriors 2, whose logo found in the game's graphics data, it was likely an English version of Vampire Savior 2 was planned as well. Instead, the games' English ports was packaged together with Darkstalkers 3. Vampire Savior 2 was ultimately localized as Darkstalkers 3 Special.
